Pride and Prejudice at the Palmer

Belfast Central School’s production of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice has been deemed a success. It was performed in the BCS Auditorium April 28th and 29th. We had an excellent turn-out both nights with much laughter and attention from the crowd.

Pride and Prejudice is about an upper-class British family at the end of the 18th century with five single daughters. Mr. Bennet, played by Reilly Shannon, is sarcastic and insightful with a dry sense of humor. Mrs. Bennet, played by Sarah Marsh, is bound to get her daughters married and is quite obnoxious, providing comic relief. Elizabeth, Eryn Broshar, is the romantic lead who is disgusted by most of her suitors, but finds a spark with the wealthy Mr. Darcy, James Booth, after a failed proposal from Mr. Collins, Hunter Lincoln. Beautiful Jane, Ashley Estabrook, falls in love with the rich bachelor Charles Bingley, Mike Hamer. Meanwhile, the young and flirtatious Lydia, Emma Sullivan (Rachel Marsh for third show), runs away to elope with the charming soldier Mr. Wickham, Mackenzie Cox (Eli Broshar for third show).

If you didn’t get to see it, don’t worry, you still have one more opportunity. A matinee is taking place at the Palmer Opera House and Event Center, 12 West Main St. in Cuba, at 2:00 on Sunday, May 7th. There is no admission fee, but donations will be accepted. You will watch true love blossom and find out that “sometimes the last person on earth you want to be with is the one person you can’t be without.”
