Belfast Central School welcomes Dr. Wendy Butler as our new superintendent. Dr. Butler lives in Friendship, where she also grew up, with her husband Joe. While she was in college, she worked at Enders’ Grocery here in Belfast, and she got to know many people in the community.  Her experience in Belfast when younger enticed her to apply for the superintendent position many years later. “I am very excited to become part of the Belfast Community!” she said.

In school, Dr. Butler’s favorite subject was math. She states that when she changed her career path towards education, she knew that she wanted to be a superintendent. She noticed that many small schools in our area have become stepping stones for people to get experience and move on to larger districts. Taking the role of superintendent would help her strengthen the local schools and deal with important issues.

As for hobbies, Dr. Butler enjoys golfing, digital scrapbooking, cooking, and reading, but she really enjoys helping communities and students. Her previous experience includes 7-12 Special Education teacher at Scio Central School, Boces Curriculum Coordinator and Staff Specialist, and most recently, the Elementary Principal of Fillmore Central. She has several degrees: a Bachelor’s in Philosophy/Pre-Law, a Master’s in Special education and in Administration, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Dr. Butler looks forward to working with the faculty and staff at BCS. Her main goal for this school and the district is “to make Belfast the strongest possible school to meet students’ academic, social, and physical needs.” Dr. Butler will start her new job at Belfast Central on July 1st, and we look forward to her joining the BCS family!
