Aran Heaney graduated in 1987 and resides in Belfast, NY. He graduated from two colleges: SUNY Geneseo with a BA in American History in 1991, and St. Bonaventure with an MS Ed in Advanced Teacher Education in 1997.  He majored in History, Secondary Education, and had a Political Science Minor. Mr. Heaney is currently a History teacher here at Belfast as well as an Adjunct Professor at SUNY Alfred since 2002. He teaches US History I, US History II, and International Relations at Alfred. He enjoys both of his professions, often discussing his Alfred classes with his students in Belfast.

Mr. Heaney states that he has many great high school memories. They include playing on a Section V Championship team that advanced to the State Final Four. Along with that, his team played against Fillmore, at the time undefeated, and won. He also recalls playing basketball with his friends Tim McCumiskey, Tom McCumiskey, and Rick Lyman. His junior year, he performed in Arsenic and Old Lace in the old auditorium. Lastly, he mentioned participating in the Allegany County Intern Program, which took him on a trip to Washington, D. C.

Sports, travel, music, and poker are a few interests that Mr. Heaney has. He enjoys cheering for the Buffalo Bills, the Boston Celtics, and the Chicago Cubs. He likes spending time in Ocean City, Maryland, and listening to music such as Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, and The Grateful Dead. When asked for some advice to students, he said: “Show up, work hard, and always do the best you possibly can in whatever you’re doing.”
