Announcing Drama Club
November 17, 2022
Do you want to join the MS/HS drama club? Here is all you need to know.
Interview
I interviewed Drama club adviser, Ms. Szwejbka, to find out more information.
Q: “Why did you start the drama club?”
A: “Middle and High school musicals have always been a thing, and Ms. Preston directed plays for both MS and HS for many years until 2018, but I wanted an opportunity this year for people that are interested in theatre, but not interested in musicals. Students can participate in acting, hair, makeup, and stage without the singing aspect.”
Q: “What will the schedule look like?”
“A: There will be a winter show in January with series of one acts and comedies. I think we all need to laugh a little bit with these past couple of years.”
Q: “How will this coordinate with sports?”
A: “There will be four separate casts. Four rehearsal schedules, and a weekend show time that is not during any sport game or practice times.”
Experience
You do not need to have years of experience to do this. We have some returning actors who have done this for a long time. But we also have some people who are new to school theatre.
In 2021, there were two zoom plays because of the circumstances that not everyone could participate in. So, this is a new thing for everyone in some way.
The art club is collaborating with us for props, general help, etc.
Remember that you are not pressured to stay and you can quit at any time, unless you have a lead role and there is a show coming up. Then, you need to have that commitment firsthand.
There is always a role for every student no matter the circumstances.
You can participate is acting, stage crew, makeup, or anything that may be of help to everyone. The upcoming meetings are to be decided and you can join anytime.
You can sign up by talking to Ms. Szwejbka in her room or outside Ms. Marriott’s door.
