Kathryn Fritz Garrison

Class of 1964

Kathryn Fritz Garrison

Kathryn Fritz Garrison graduated from Belfast Central School in 1964 and then attended Kent State University and Rochester Institute of Technology. She majored in geochemistry and computer sciences. She was then employed by General Dynamics Information Technologies as a Senior Database Architect. Her career demanded problem solving, as she analyzed data and designed solutions, and did extensive technical writing and presentations.  In her work for the federal government, Kathryn designed and implemented solutions for both civilian and military applications.

As a retiree, Kathryn explores her creative side with fabric art and photography and also teaches quilting classes and gives travelogue lectures.  She is the events coordinator for the Belfast Organization for Artists and is active in a number of community organizations, including the Belfast Lions, Crafty Belles, the Belfast Historical Society, and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

When asked for advice for future BCS graduates, she said that you don’t need to be number one,  but always try your best. She thinks it’s a good idea to set a series of goals,  some easier and some harder, but also some that seem impossible. This way, you are always working towards them. She also said:  “Evaluate your progress fairly and don’t waste time on angst. Be open to learn at every opportunity.” Kathryn also notes that it’s important to have some fun in your life in order to balance the work. But also keep in mind, she says, that the key to personal success is a good work ethic.
