Since the recent resignation of Mrs. May, BCS has a temporary superintendent until one is appointed by the BOE on July 1st. Mr. Hanks also filled in for Mrs. May during a medical leave last year. Mr. Hanks was superintendent for Fillmore from 1985-2009 and has since been an interim superintendent for several schools: Allegany Limestone, Fillmore, Scio, Friendship, and Belfast. Mr. Hanks has decided to work here again because of the strong first impression he had. “Belfast genuinely tries to meet the needs of kids. Working in a small school, everyone one knows each other on a more personal level and that comes with its own advantages. I came back to Belfast because of the great opinion I had of the school.”

After the CA BOCES superintendent, Lynda Quick, interviews potential candidates for the position, a BOE meeting will be held on April 26th at 4:30 to  discuss and determine the best qualified person for the job. On May 10th and 11th initial interviews by the board to pick approximately two to four finalists for the job.  Then, on May 17th, final interviews will be conducted among three constituency groups consisting of teachers, community members, and even students. The process of hiring a superintendent is important because he or she will be making critical decisions that will impact students, parents, and the school.
