Film Review: Logan

MacKenzie Hamer

The new movie Logan is directed by James Mangold and came out March 3rd. This Wolverine movie will be Hugh Jackman’s final appearance playing as Wolverine. However, this movie is a little different from the rest: unlike the past X-men movies, it is R rated. The movie follows the bloody comic book violence, including characters being sliced through flesh and skulls, shot, in pain, and killed.  It is mainly centered around Logan’s struggle in life, as he looks to drinking instead of his health. Logan is slowly, but surely dying, something fans have never witnessed from the immortal superhero. He also takes care of his old dying friend, Professor Xavier, who was once the leader of the X-men.  As the movie continues, they both do what they can to save a young mutant girl. She has been being chased by an army of villains who were genetically engineered mutant children meant to become a vicious army. This young girl is named Laura and she seems  very similar to Logan. She bears the same characteristics as him, having a regenerative healing factor and enhanced senses, speed, and reflexes. She also has retractable adamantium-coated bone claws in her hands and feet, just like Wolverine.

This movie was one of the best movies I have seen in awhile: not only was it full of action and suspense, but it also had its heartbreaking moments. Logan was a very powerful film and the character of Logan has become a genuinely different and emotional person in a way that none of the previous X-films can prepare you for. The movie was full of shocking surprises, and I highly recommend it to any of the X-men fans out there.
