It’s been an eventful first couple weeks of the 2017 boys varsity soccer season. They are currently 7-1 for the year, but how did they get there? It started with a season opening 6-1 win over B-R in the opening round of the Belfast soccer tournament. Adam Enders and Austin Gustason each had two goals and Jason Drozdowski and Eli Broshar added goals as well, while Alex and Adam Enders each had an assist and Caleb Caiazza did as well while Junior goalie Kevin McCumiskey started the season with three saves.

On September 1st, the boys won their first Belfast tournament title in six years with a 3-1 win over Andover. Alex and Adam both scored while Isaah Leiseur added his first goal of the year and Mackenzie Cox and Hunter Enders added assists while McCumiskey had five saves.

On Tuesday, September 5th, the boys played Cuba-Rushford. The boys dominated the first half, taking a 2-0 lead. Led by their best player, Cuba came back to win 3-2. Enders had both goals for Belfast and Hunter Enders added an assist while McCumiskey made one save.

The boys bounced back in a big way on Friday the 8th, rolling to a 7-1 win at Hinsdale. Enders netted two goals, while Alex, Andrew, Kyle, Shane and Hunter all netted a goal each. Alex picked up an assist and McCumsikey stopped six shots on goal. Belfast continued to roll, defeating Friendship 5-0 on September 12th. Adam netted four goals, while Cox added a goal as well as an assist and Hunter Enders and Comstock each had an assist while Kevin needed only three saves in preserving the first Belfast shutout of the year.

Fillmore came to town the 15th and Belfast walked away victorious, 2-1. Enders scored twice for Belfast and McCumiskey stopped eight shots on goal.

After a 3-2 loss on the fifth, the boys traveled to Cuba ,looking to even the series with the Rebels. After a scoreless first half, Belfast came out strong in the second half with Enders leading the way with two goals and an assist and Cox added a goal to lead the Bulldogs. In goal, McCumiskey needed just four saves for his 2nd shutout of the season.

The boys traveled to Houghton Wednesday for a league game. Good defense by both teams led to a 0-0 game after forty minutes. Adam and Hunter Enders changed that, each scoring a goal in the second half. Adam scored after a long goal kick by McCumiskey, who saved three shots in the shutout, while Hunter scored on a breakaway pass from Adam Enders. The boys will travel to Whitesville Friday, looking for their eighth win of the season at 5:00. Come support the boys!
