Exposure

Julia Lindo

You. I know who you are. You’re the one who makes friends, eludes them, then tosses them away as if you never knew them. You. I know why you did it. You did it because you were like her. You both had modest limitations and it was when yours was removed that you turned your back on the girl you once knew. You. I know how you did it. You had the summer to be “Free” and you spent it with another, who you now call, “Best Friend.” Now, the both of you grow, like a rose. You are the petals, your new accomplice is the bud, and together you form thorns. Thorns that plan demise and seek destruction of the girl you once knew.

But let me tell you something. I know the girl you once knew. She is stronger than the insults and the attitude that you throw at her. She is better than the two of you who try to sabotage her. Know this also, I’ll always be there. Not only to pick her up when she falls, but to also stop you while you’re in the midst of her destruction. So keep away. My words will be her shield and my sword. Because her purity deserves more than someone like you. You are no longer one and the same. You were just exposed.
