A Genius in the Making

A Genius in the Making

Julia Lindo

2017 graduate Hannah Lindo is a student, a sister, and a positive influence to all.  She possesses many talents that are hard for others to acquire, but she doesn’t keep them to herself. She tries to teach and share them with others, making her the greatest influence of all. By the time you’ve finished reading this, you’d think you were reading a college application, scholarship application, or even a recommendation. But it isn’t. It’s simply about an amazing person whose characteristics fit that of a perfect applicant for anything.

One of Hannah’s gifts is music. Hannah exemplifies the meaning of  a musician: “a person who makes music a profession, especially as a performer of music,” (Dictionary.com)  in her talent. Hannah is constantly involved in music: whether it’s band or choir, she’s there. She constantly displays a leadership role when it comes to music. By practicing in her free time and constantly wanting to improve, she passes this initiative onto those around her. An example of her music ability is the variety of instruments she learned to play, which include guitar, alto, baritone, tenor, and soprano saxophone, drum set, percussion, violin, mandolin, ukulele, piano, and voice. Hannah started playing the saxophone in third grade and became a professional instrumentalist in 6th grade due to her dedication and love towards music. Hannah once said that music is not what she plays or writes, but it’s who she is. This is because music has the ability to express the words that we cannot come up with through sound. Overall, she learned these instruments over a three-year stretch-from 3rd grade to 6th grade.

Hannah doesn’t keep this talent to herself. Instead, she spends her time helping others where their struggles lie. She even teaches them how to play their own instruments even if they aren’t one of the twelve on the list above. Another example of her musical excellence is that she knows how to  sight-read, play level 6 music (highest level of musical status), and more. Basically, she has the skills that every true musician dreams of having, and she shares them so others can also reach the accomplishments that she has.

Another one of Hannah’s gifts is scholarship. According to Mrs. Preston, “Hannah is interested in learning for the sake of learning, not merely for a grade. She exemplifies true scholarship in a way that’s very rare.” If anyone can describe how smart she is, they’d use words like “erudite” or “genius.”  This is because Hannah dedicates her time to perfect her school work and do her best in school. Hannah demonstrates the meaning of a true scholar, which is “a learned or erudite person, especially one who has profound knowledge of a particular subject.” (Dictionary.com)  She almost always scores a 100% on everything and almost never gets a failing grade. Hannah has an Advanced Regents score for all the Regents that she has taken so far. She is so much of a scholar, that she claimed the valedictorian title by a long run. Her current GPA as of the third quarter is 100.2%!

Hannah shares this gift of scholarship by engaging in tutoring or even something as simple as homework help. Anyone could be drastic and even say that she could be a college professor and would not be exaggerating. An example of this is when she teaches/conducts band or choir when there is a substitute teacher there. Sometimes even when there is a teacher there. Her value of music makes her exceptionally better than almost everyone. Her current classes as of 2016-17 are College U.S. American History 1 + 2, College Bio, College English, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Chemistry, and Physics. By taking these classes, it shows how hard she is willing to work to grow in knowledge.

Another one of Hannah’s gifts is her character. Hannah the most friendly, patient, giving, polite, respectful, loyal, caring, loving, and funny person that you’d ever know. She is willing to put her own needs down for others and accept anyone for who they are. She the type of person that everyone would benefit being around because of her amazing personality. She is a truly inspirational person who demonstrates all aspects of a true friend. She listens, she is trustworthy, she is patient, caring, giving, loyal: everything found in a true friend. She has demonstrated this by always helping me get through my hardships and times of sadness. Hannah has the traits that no one can or should take for granted. Hannah shares this gift with others through the means of advice or by simply being there for them when they are needing comfort.

Hannah has influenced me in many ways. Her own successes are the things that I use as an influential tool. Whenever I see her walk across the stage to claim her awards, it makes me aspire to also get those awards. Whenever she perfectly plays a sheet of music, I aspire to play a sheet of music perfectly. This is because we’ve always been told to aspire to do great things, and by watching my older sister take this advice, I know that I should also.
